Eligibility

LIHEAP The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is designed to help low-income households in pay for energy (typically winter) services. LIHEAP will provide a benefit to eligible households to be used for energy bills. The amount of the payment is determined by income, household size, fuel type, and geographic location. An overdue bill or shut-off notice is NOT required. Applicants also do NOT need to own their home or pay energy bills directly to be eligible for assistance. All fuel sources including, but not limited to, oil, propane, wood, natural gas, and electric, are eligible for assistance. Emergency assistance may be available if the home is disconnected from an energy source needed for heating and/or the delivered fuel supplier has refused to deliver, and the tank contains 25% or less. ================================================= *LIHEAP Furnace Program: For households currently WITHOUT HEAT and who meet LIHEAP income guidelines (please call).

Tazwood Community Services, Inc. administers the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) for Peoria County. ============================================= The 2026-27 LIHEAP program will begin setting appointments via phone on September 29, 2026 at 8 a.m. Appointments for October and November will be scheduled this day. The online scheduling system will open at the end of the business day. October Priority Groups: *Age 60 or older *Those receiving a form of Social Security Disability or VA Disability *Households with children age 5 or under *Households with a disconnection notice or who are currently disconnected November: Open to ALL ----------------------------------------------------- Applications will be taken from October 1, 2026 - August 13, 2027, or until funding is exhausted. Funding for LIHEAP is provided in part or in whole by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. Per program rules, appointments may be scheduled up to 60 days in advance. If there are no appointments appearing on the scheduler (https://www.tazwoodcs.org/liheap) or when you contact the office, please check back the next business day. The scheduler automatically unlocks appointments as they become available. PLEASE NOTE: If a customer has a crisis situation, a shut off notice or are disconnected from services, they may be eligible to receive Reconnection Assistance (RA). An RA payment looks at the amount due to the vendor to prevent disconnection or restoration of services.
