The Illinois Department on Aging helps older adults live independently in their own homes and communities. The Department's Senior HelpLine provides information on a wide range of programs and services, and links individuals aged 60 and older and their caregivers to local resources and support services in their communities. Professional staff briefly assess needs, send literature, and write referrals for care coordination services, the Long-Term Care Ombudsman program, legal services, transportation, employment, and nutrition services. The line can also provide guidance on Medicare via its Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP).
