The purpose of the Miller Center is to serve the needs and interests of older adults (age 50+) in Pekin. The Miller Center offers transportation, activities, and serves as a central information and referral center. Contact for information or assistance concerning education, nutrition, health issues, legal aid, employment, transportation, recreation, social counseling, and cultural topics for mature adults.

This location occasionally serves as a cooling or warming center, as announced.

Peoria County Triad is a safety organization that focuses on reducing crime victimization of seniors. This is a combined effort between the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office, Peoria Police Department, and other agencies in the community that work in senior services. The areas of concern covered include identity theft, scams, personal safety, home safety, and elder abuse.

Free transit passes are available through the Benefit Access program for eligible applicants. The Western Illinois Area Agency on Aging can assist in applying for this program.

Children's Home is helping to keep families involved with DCFS through in-home counseling contracts. Family Based Intervention (FBI) provides individual and family therapy to children as young as two-years-old up through adults with trauma or mental health concerns who have an open case with Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) and reside in Peoria, Tazewell, or Woodford counties. The counseling services address individual concerns and family dynamics, crisis intervention, parent education, advocacy, and community outreach. The goals of the program are to keep families together who are still intact and to reunify families whose children are youth in care. The Valeska Hinton Early Childhood Education Center is a school for children ages 3 to 7 years old and their families. The early childhood program provides care and education in a developmentally appropriate, NAEYC Accredited environment. Guided by the philosophy that all children can learn, Valeska operates year round serving approximately 400 at-risk children from all areas of Peoria Public Schools. Children will gain accelerated development of social, emotional, language, and cognitive ability in a secure and stable environment. Children enter the center and join one of our four villages. Valeska's villages serve as a hub for many family and community activities.

It Takes A Village of Peoria is aimed at collaborating with organizations, parents, students, teaching personnel, and citizens to support students' academic success. The organization offers a "Village" store inside of Peoria area schools that provides free clothing, school supplies, and food. The Disability Transit/CityLift "door to door" service provides a transportation option for 18- to 59-year-old residents of urban Washington with a mobility disability. The service can transport to points within the Washington urban area, as well as in East Peoria and Peoria. Prior to utilizing the program, an interested person will need to submit an application to the Washington Township Office for approval. -------------------------------------------------------------------- FOR CONVENIENCE, IMMEDIATELY BELOW ARE OTHER RIDE PROGRAMS FOR PEOPLE IN THE WASHINGTON AREA (Please note that the other ride programs immediately below do not require an application, while the Disability Transit/CityLift "door to door" service for 18- to 59-year old urban Washington residents with a mobility disability does require an application; the details of that application are explained further down this page) Paratransit service or referral for individuals aged 60 plus is already provided by Central Illinois Agency on Aging in the Washington urban area. For Sunnyland residents who are already qualified to ride the CityLift transit bus to points in East Peoria and Peoria and want to travel to the City of Washington must fill out and submit the Washington Rider Application to Washington Township. Transportation for rural Washington Township residents is provided through We Care in Morton. We Care will transport persons who are mobility challenged, with or without disabilities, to and from rural points as well as from city to rural, rural to city, but not city to city or point to point within a city. Persons may call We Care directly at 309-263-7708. Don't forget that Washington Township provides the 62+ Ride Service for seniors 62 and over through TDK Event Services for individuals who live in and are traveling to points within Washington Township, or from Washington Township to medical appointments in Peoria, East Peoria, or Morton. First Hand Foundation is a public 501(c)(3) organization that provides funding for individual children—both domestically and globally—who need assistance with clinical necessities (such as surgery, medication and therapy), medical equipment and travel related to care. Children's Home offers a family focused, strengths-based care coordination and wrap-around service for youth with complex behavioral health needs. Children's Home is the Care Coordination and Support Organization (CCSO) for Pathways to Success in Central Illinois, serving as a centralized leader with a dedicated and trained team of coordinators that offer support to clients and families. Pathways is a program for Medicaid-enrolled youth under the age of 21 in Illinois who have complex behavioral health needs and could benefit from additional support. Care coordinators collaborate closely with community services to help build supports in the home, school, and community. The goal of the Pathways program is to improve family functioning, reduce caregiver stress, provide stability for at-risk youth in the home, improve school attendance, and reduce hospitalization.
