The Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program offers free mammograms, breast exams, pelvic exams and Pap tests to eligible women. Even if a woman has already been diagnosed with cancer, she may receive free treatment if she qualifies.

The Veterans Assistance Commission (VAC) of Fulton County is available to assist veterans with their VA administrative needs, like filing claims; re-certifying paperwork with the VA; obtaining military and civilian medical documents, etc. for help with Veterans Administration claims; registering for VA Health Care; and acquiring legal copies of military records to include copies of Certificate of Discharge and Release from Active Duty (DD-214). The VAC has an accredited veteran service officer available to file claims. The office also offers Emergency Financial Assistance to Honorably Discharged Fulton County Veterans who qualify under the Federal Poverty Guidelines. In addition, the Veterans Assistance Commission provides free transportation to and from VA Health Care Facility appointments in Illinois and Iowa. These rides are on a first come first serve basis. Veterans should call in to reserve their ride immediately upon notification of their next appointment.

Our shelter was made possible by a grant from Dara’s Canine Foundation and the generosity of many individual contributors. Because of their support, the lives of many senior citizens will be enriched and the lives of many wonderful older cats and dogs will be saved. After the initial isolation period, cats are allowed to run loose in the building. Dogs are walked 2-3 times a day. “Kizzie’s Garden” is a fenced area for one on one time with the dogs. With food allergies on the rise, and a lack of support across the country, food allergy families Kevin/Lindsey Spangler and Chris/Megan Horan of Peoria, IL came together to start Allergy Awareness for Children Everywhere (AACE Peoria), a FARE-recognized food allergy support group. Their group's mission of providing lifesaving food allergy support, education, advocacy, and research to the community has led them to collaborate with Red Sneakers for Oakley (RSFO). RSFO's focus is saving lives through educating and advocating for individuals with food allergies. The similar missions and the desire to organize other fragmented groups across the country sparked the collaboration. The group centered in Peoria Heights, IL is the first Red Sneakers for Oakley Chapter in the country. ===================================== Current Efforts: *Food allergy awareness education and training: Food allergy training certified by FARECheck, ServSafe. Intervention and Substance Abuse services are offered in a five county area (Knox, Henry, Warren, Henderson and McDonough) in West Central Illinois.
