Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) provides support, advocacy, and resources for victims of drunk and drug-impaired driving, as well as prevention and education services aimed at ending impaired driving. The organization's 24/7 Victim Helpline is a confidential, toll-free line that provides emotional support, information, and referrals for individuals and families impacted by drunk or drug-impaired driving crashes. Assistance can include help navigating the criminal justice system, victims’ rights, compensation options, and community-based victim services. In addition, MADD can assist in locating Victim Impact Panels, which are educational programs where victims or survivors share personal stories about the consequences of impaired driving. These are typically court-ordered for individuals convicted of DUI/DWI offenses, but may also be attended voluntarily. They are offered in many communities and sometimes available online, depending on location.

The Penn Township Office administers limited community assistance/general relief for qualifying township residents. General relief is considered a form of assistance of "last resort" and is often very limited when compared to other public assistance programs. IMPORTANT: Penn Township covers much of the rural area between (but not including the town limits of) Wyoming and Camp Grove, and it covers the community of Castleton. The Disability Transit/CityLift "door to door" service provides a transportation option for 18- to 59-year-old residents of urban Washington with a mobility disability. The service can transport to points within the Washington urban area, as well as in East Peoria and Peoria. Prior to utilizing the program, an interested person will need to submit an application to the Washington Township Office for approval. -------------------------------------------------------------------- FOR CONVENIENCE, IMMEDIATELY BELOW ARE OTHER RIDE PROGRAMS FOR PEOPLE IN THE WASHINGTON AREA (Please note that the other ride programs immediately below do not require an application, while the Disability Transit/CityLift "door to door" service for 18- to 59-year old urban Washington residents with a mobility disability does require an application; the details of that application are explained further down this page) Paratransit service or referral for individuals aged 60 plus is already provided by Central Illinois Agency on Aging in the Washington urban area. The Agency on Aging can be reached at 309-674-2071. For Sunnyland residents who are already qualified to ride the CityLift transit bus to points in East Peoria and Peoria and want to travel to the City of Washington must fill out and submit the Washington Rider Application to Washington Township. Transportation for rural Washington Township residents is provided through We Care in Morton. We Care will transport persons who are mobility challenged, with or without disabilities, to and from rural points as well as from city to rural, rural to city, but not city to city or point to point within a city. Persons may call We Care directly at 309-263-7708. Don't forget that Washington Township provides the 62+ Ride Service for seniors 62 and over through TDK Event Services for individuals who live in and are traveling to points within Washington Township, or from Washington Township to medical appointments in Peoria, East Peoria, or Morton.
