Illiana-Danville VA Medical Center has teamed up with AgeCentral to offer Veteran Directed Care (VDC). VDC provides assistance to veterans to help them remain in their homes and is a more flexible option than traditional in-home services. A trained options counselor helps the veteran determine what kind of help is needed, and then VA funds are used to- *Hire and manage an in-home assistant, including hiring a family member or friend to help with personal care and assistance around the house *Make the home more accessible *Order meal delivery services

With food allergies on the rise, and a lack of support across the country, food allergy families Kevin/Lindsey Spangler and Chris/Megan Horan of Peoria, IL came together to start Allergy Awareness for Children Everywhere (AACE Peoria), a FARE-recognized food allergy support group. Their group's mission of providing lifesaving food allergy support, education, advocacy, and research to the community has led them to collaborate with Red Sneakers for Oakley (RSFO). RSFO's focus is saving lives through educating and advocating for individuals with food allergies. The similar missions and the desire to organize other fragmented groups across the country sparked the collaboration. The group centered in Peoria Heights, IL is the first Red Sneakers for Oakley Chapter in the country. ===================================== Current Efforts: *Food allergy awareness education and training: Food allergy training certified by FARECheck, ServSafe. The VFW National Home provides supportive services and stable housing for military and veteran families experiencing housing challenges. Families participate in a structured, three-phase program designed to promote long-term stability and self-sufficiency. Services include safe housing, educational support, veteran transition resources, employment and job-training assistance, and community-building programs. The National Home works with each family to develop individualized goals and provides ongoing case management to support their progress.

The Veterans Assistance Commission is an agency that is operated by and for veterans. The commission provides aid to those indigent veterans and their families residing in Tazewell County who meet eligibility requirements.

The Men's Residential Center is a Christian homeless shelter for men that, in addition to a place to sleep, offers nutritious meals, chapel services, clean clothes, showers, and case management services. Please note that this site was formerly known as the Peoria Rescue Mission.

The Medical Cannabis Registry Program is a statewide program that allows patients access to medical marijuana who meet one of the qualifying conditions. The Illinois Department of Public Health manages the registry by reviewing and processing applications and issuing registry cards to Illinois residents meeting program requirements. IDPH protects patient confidentiality while striving to ensure timely accessibility to cannabis for registered patients. Application assistance is free and available via certain health departments in the state, including the Fulton County Health Department.

The Fulton County Health Department offers a variety of public health services. Also, there is a Free Overdose Prevention Vending Machine located just inside the front doors, available during normal business hours (Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.)

The Veterans Assistance Commission (VAC) of Fulton County is available to assist veterans with their VA administrative needs, like filing claims; re-certifying paperwork with the VA; obtaining military and civilian medical documents, etc. for help with Veterans Administration claims; registering for VA Health Care; and acquiring legal copies of military records to include copies of Certificate of Discharge and Release from Active Duty (DD-214). The VAC has an accredited veteran service officer available to file claims. The office also offers Emergency Financial Assistance to Honorably Discharged Fulton County Veterans who qualify under the Federal Poverty Guidelines. In addition, the Veterans Assistance Commission provides free transportation to and from VA Health Care Facility appointments in Illinois and Iowa. These rides are on a first come first serve basis. Veterans should call in to reserve their ride immediately upon notification of their next appointment.
