The Multiple Sclerosis Foundation is a nonprofit serving people affected by multiple sclerosis (MS). Callers receive personalized information about multiple sclerosis and connections to local and national resources related to MS. Service coordinators and peer counselors can talk through needs, answer questions, and help find the right support. Through the helpline, people with MS can also learn about and apply for a variety of support programs (eligibility usually requires an MS diagnosis), such as *Emergency Assistance Grant -- financial help for urgent needs like rent or utility bills (documentation required) *Healthcare Assistance Grant -- helps uninsured individuals pay for neurologist or dental visits *Homecare Assistance Grant – short-term homecare, caregiver respite, therapy services *Transportation Assistance Grant – funding for paratransit or rides to medical appointments (Lyft/Uber) and minor car repairs *Assistive Technology Program – info and partial funding for devices that aid daily living (e.g., canes, adaptive tech) *Computer Program – provides computers to help people with MS stay connected. *Cooling Program – cooling vests and accessories for heat sensitivity. Hand Up Peoria offers a food pantry twice per month (2nd & 4th Thursday, usually), as well as a hygiene item pantry (2nd & 4th Wednesday, usually). Thursday pantry items include food, meat, some refrigerated items and fruits as available, and bread. Wednesday hygiene items include incontinence supplies, feminine hygiene items, baby needs (diapers & wipes, primarily), and other hygiene products.

Helpline services are free and confidential. Anyone can use the Helpline, whether the person is struggling with a substance use disorder or cares about someone who is. Trained Helpline Specialists answer questions, provide support, and connect the caller with services in Illinois. ---------------------------------------- The Illinois Helpline also offers medication on demand to IL residents seeking treatment for opioid use disorder (OUD) and alcohol use disorder (AUD). Medication-assisted recovery (MAR) involves the use of FDA-approved medications for treatment of OUD and AUD. Now an individual can speak directly with a provider over the phone, immediately receive a prescription or expedited, in-person appointment, and get transportation assistance to the pharmacy or clinic- all initiated through one phone call. Callers can access MAR NOW 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Care managers help callers determine their best treatment options and connect them to a provider for an immediate telephone appointment and medication prescription. Care coordinators can also facilitate a same- or next-day, in-person appointment. All callers are connected to ongoing treatment with a community provider that best meets their needs.

The Share Closet is a community resale store carrying a variety of clothing, kitchen supplies, furniture, decor, toys, books, and much more. The Share Closet also collects medical supplies, bedding, kitchen, and baby supplies to give to those in need. The site operates as a thrift store but provides certificates for individuals who cannot afford needed items.

Among the most prominent programs are preschool and home visiting. The Veterans Assistance program is an emergency and interim financial assistance program and should not be considered to be an ongoing financial supportive program. All assistance provided by the VACPC is predicated on an established standard of need as set forth by IDHS. It is not the intent of either the Commission or the County to provide assistance either less than or in excess of the levels of assistance adopted by IDHS. The following assistance is given upon qualification: *Food Orders and Personal Items: Depending on size of family. *Utilities and Fuel: Utility payments will be made, providing the applicant qualifies in other respects. No deposits or past due bills will be paid to the utility company. *Rent Payments: This Veterans Assistance office does not pay security deposits, back rents, or home finding fees. Rents shall not be paid to relatives unless it is a separate rental dwelling. *Transportation: The VA will provide Transportation for the veteran to the local Veterans Medical Center by the least expensive means when necessary.

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides expedited services for SNAP benefits for people who qualify and do not already get SNAP benefits. Those who need food immediately and who meet the eligibility requirements may receive SNAP benefits within five calendar days.

Tazewell Woodford Head Start is a federally funded program that empowers families and promotes school readiness in preschool-age children. Tazewell Woodford Head Start serves approximately 350 families in the surrounding communities. Teachers follow a developmentally-appropriate curriculum based on the Head Start Framework and Illinois Learning Standards.
