With food allergies on the rise, and a lack of support across the country, food allergy families Kevin/Lindsey Spangler and Chris/Megan Horan of Peoria, IL came together to start Allergy Awareness for Children Everywhere (AACE Peoria), a FARE-recognized food allergy support group. Their group's mission of providing lifesaving food allergy support, education, advocacy, and research to the community has led them to collaborate with Red Sneakers for Oakley (RSFO). RSFO's focus is saving lives through educating and advocating for individuals with food allergies. The similar missions and the desire to organize other fragmented groups across the country sparked the collaboration. The group centered in Peoria Heights, IL is the first Red Sneakers for Oakley Chapter in the country. ===================================== Current Efforts: *Food allergy awareness education and training: Food allergy training certified by FARECheck, ServSafe. CPR training certified by the American Heart Association. *Undesignated epinephrine and albuterol for schools, early learning centers, restaurants, entertainment venues first responders, and community entities. *Allergy friendly camps. *Annual food allergy community outreach and awareness events. The Peoria Friendship House is a faith-based organization reaching out to all those in need, regardless of faith. Core programs include- *Financial Stability Program The purpose of the Financial Stability program is to help participants to increase their revenue while decreasing their expenses, thus helping them to improve their quality of life. This is a case management program that provides financial, credit and employment education, training, coaching and mentorship while providing basic needs like food, clothing, transportation, healthcare, and hygiene products. *Citizenship Classes Includes assistance with application process & Individual Attention/Support. Completely free. *La Familia La Familia Program that strives to restore dignity and protect our local Latino community by providing culturally responsive and healing support across the lifespan, from children to seniors. *S.T.E.A.M.S Academy An after-school program for K-8th graders that focuses on increasing learning potential with a concentration on one-on-one tutoring, enrichment activities and service learning opportunities. It features the S.T.E.A.M.S curriculum, which includes First Lego League, allowing children to research, design, and build Lego Robot. The goal is that the children grow to love learning and look beyond simply passing their school courses, but dream to excel far beyond. When school is out for the summer, there is an eight-week Summer Camp program focusing on leadership development that provides four consecutive 2-week camp themes with an enriching diverse program in a fun and safe environment. The children learn about healthy living, giving back to one's community through service learning, and social and emotional well-being. *Pathway to YOUR Future Designed specifically to prepare, teach, and support high school students' transition into adulthood. As a result, they support each other to pursue their goals and unite the school community for long-term change. *Peoria Peacekeepers The Peoria Peacekeepers Network is a referral program established by the Peoria Friendship House that focuses on using a restorative justice approach to provide juvenile offenders who have admitted to committing certain eligible offenses, misdemeanors, or felony. Juvenile offenders are given the opportunity to make restitution, connect with the community, and receive needed services and support. Peoria Friendship House works in tandem with various organizations to provide aid to juvenile offenders via referral sources such as the Peoria Police Department Station Adjustments, Peoria Public Schools discipline referrals, and Peoria County Probation Informal Supervision.

The Veterans Assistance Commission (VAC) of Fulton County is available to assist veterans with their VA administrative needs, like filing claims; re-certifying paperwork with the VA; obtaining military and civilian medical documents, etc. for help with Veterans Administration claims; registering for VA Health Care; and acquiring legal copies of military records to include copies of Certificate of Discharge and Release from Active Duty (DD-214). The VAC has an accredited veteran service officer available to file claims. The office also offers Emergency Financial Assistance to Honorably Discharged Fulton County Veterans who qualify under the Federal Poverty Guidelines. In addition, the Veterans Assistance Commission provides free transportation to and from VA Health Care Facility appointments in Illinois and Iowa. These rides are on a first come first serve basis. Veterans should call in to reserve their ride immediately upon notification of their next appointment.
