The Multiple Sclerosis Foundation is a nonprofit serving people affected by multiple sclerosis (MS). Callers receive personalized information about multiple sclerosis and connections to local and national resources related to MS. Service coordinators and peer counselors can talk through needs, answer questions, and help find the right support. Through the helpline, people with MS can also learn about and apply for a variety of support programs (eligibility usually requires an MS diagnosis), such as *Emergency Assistance Grant -- financial help for urgent needs like rent or utility bills (documentation required) *Healthcare Assistance Grant -- helps uninsured individuals pay for neurologist or dental visits *Homecare Assistance Grant – short-term homecare, caregiver respite, therapy services *Transportation Assistance Grant – funding for paratransit or rides to medical appointments (Lyft/Uber) and minor car repairs *Assistive Technology Program – info and partial funding for devices that aid daily living (e.g., canes, adaptive tech) *Computer Program – provides computers to help people with MS stay connected. *Cooling Program – cooling vests and accessories for heat sensitivity. In addition, the helpline can connect callers to peer counseling, advice on local support groups, and online communities.

Good Days offers medical assistance programs for people dealing with a variety of diseases: Copay Assistance Copays for treatments that can extend life and alleviate suffering Travel Assistance Transportation costs can be a significant barrier to treatment access. The Good Days Travel Assistance program pays for travel costs to ensure patients have access to the care they need. The specially-trained team of Care Navigators make all travel arrangements and stay in constant contact with the patient, physician and case manager throughout the course of the patient’s treatment. Travel assistance may include transportation by car or a variety of public transit options including Uber Health and Lyft for Healthcare. If a patient’s treatment requires an overnight stay, Good Days Care navigators will arrange flights, car rentals, and lodging as needed. By coordinating travel from start to finish, the Travel Assistance program ensures patients can easily adhere to important medical appointments. Premium Assistance Good Days offers the Premium Assistance Program for individuals who need help paying their monthly medical insurance premiums. Diagnostic Testing Assistance Many insurance plans do not cover diagnostic testing, which could be key in obtaining a proper diagnosis and/or appropriate treatment plan. Good Days can potentially offer financial assistance to cover the cost of diagnostic testing.

One of 13 Area Agencies on Aging in Illinois and one of over 728 in the United States, CIAA is authorized by the Older Americans Act of 1965 as amended, Illinois Act on Aging, and the Illinois Department on Aging to provide services in Fulton, Marshall, Peoria, Stark, Tazewell, Woodford counties.

We Care, a division of TCRC Inc., is the only non-profit organization of its kind in our community and even the county. It was established in 1975 as a not for profit charitable corporation governed by an eleven member board of volunteer directors. The objective of We Care, is to provide services that help individuals maintain independence and to improve the quality of life for those in need. As our citizens enjoy longer lives than ever before, the needs in later years become more diverse. Families are not always available to fulfill these needs; care then falls to the community through support services. During the last 40 years, their organization has been a valued source of assistance to the members of our community by providing support services for the elderly, disabled, and those in need.

The Veterans Assistance Commission (VAC) of Fulton County is available to assist veterans with their VA administrative needs, like filing claims; re-certifying paperwork with the VA; obtaining military and civilian medical documents, etc. for help with Veterans Administration claims; registering for VA Health Care; and acquiring legal copies of military records to include copies of Certificate of Discharge and Release from Active Duty (DD-214). The VAC has an accredited veteran service officer available to file claims. The office also offers Emergency Financial Assistance to Honorably Discharged Fulton County Veterans who qualify under the Federal Poverty Guidelines. In addition, the Veterans Assistance Commission provides free transportation to and from VA Health Care Facility appointments in Illinois and Iowa. These rides are on a first come first serve basis. Veterans should call in to reserve their ride immediately upon notification of their next appointment.

Bureau and Putnam Area Rural Transit offers paratransit programs.

The Disability Transit/CityLift "door to door" service provides a transportation option for 18- to 59-year-old residents of urban Washington with a mobility disability. The service can transport to points within the Washington urban area, as well as in East Peoria and Peoria. Prior to utilizing the program, an interested person will need to submit an application to the Washington Township Office for approval. -------------------------------------------------------------------- FOR CONVENIENCE, IMMEDIATELY BELOW ARE OTHER RIDE PROGRAMS FOR PEOPLE IN THE WASHINGTON AREA (Please note that the other ride programs immediately below do not require an application, while the Disability Transit/CityLift "door to door" service for 18- to 59-year old urban Washington residents with a mobility disability does require an application; the details of that application are explained further down this page) Paratransit service or referral for individuals aged 60 plus is already provided by Central Illinois Agency on Aging in the Washington urban area. The Agency on Aging can be reached at 309-674-2071. For Sunnyland residents who are already qualified to ride the CityLift transit bus to points in East Peoria and Peoria and want to travel to the City of Washington must fill out and submit the Washington Rider Application to Washington Township. Transportation for rural Washington Township residents is provided through We Care in Morton. We Care will transport persons who are mobility challenged, with or without disabilities, to and from rural points as well as from city to rural, rural to city, but not city to city or point to point within a city. Persons may call We Care directly at 309-263-7708. Don't forget that Washington Township provides the 62+ Ride Service for seniors 62 and over through TDK Event Services for individuals who live in and are traveling to points within Washington Township, or from Washington Township to medical appointments in Peoria, East Peoria, or Morton. Blood Cancer United is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by blood cancers, including leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma, and multiple myeloma. Services Include: *Information and referral related to blood cancer diagnosis, treatment options, side effects, and survivorship *Patient and caregiver support, including one-on-one guidance from trained information specialists *Financial assistance programs for eligible patients to help with treatment-related expenses (availability and eligibility vary) *Educational resources, webinars, and support groups for patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals *Advocacy and research funding focused on improving treatments and outcomes for people with blood cancers Services are provided at no cost and are available nationwide via phone and online.

Must align with Comfort Keepers' services (non-medical in-home assistance). They are very flexible in making this work. For example, a disabled individual or a senior might call about a ride to an appointment and Comfort Keepers could make this possible by seeing if the person would like to have his or laundry done, which would involve them for non-medical in-home assistance and allow them to provide the transportation.
