Those in need may receive free smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors from the fire department. The fire stations also serve as cooling centers during extreme heat and warming centers during extreme cold spells. Cooling and Warming Center Details: All Peoria Fire Department Fire Stations are open to the public every day of the week as cooling/warming centers from 7:00 a.m. until 10:00 pm, but persons seeking help can go to any Fire Station at any time. It's important to note that if the crew is sent on a call, anyone using the station as a cooling or warming center will have to temporarily leave during that time.
