Tazwood Community Services, Inc. is organized for the purpose of reducing the causes and alleviating the effects of poverty in Tazewell and Woodford counties. ======================================================== The 2026-27 LIHEAP program will begin setting appointments on September 29, 2026 at 8 a.m. via phone. Appointments for October and November will be scheduled this day. The online scheduling system will open at the end of the business day. October Priority Groups: *Age 60 or older *Those receiving a form of Social Security Disability or VA Disability *Households with children age 5 or under *Households with a disconnection notice or who are currently disconnected November: Open to ALL Applications will be taken from October 1, 2026 - August 13, 2027, or until funding is exhausted. Funding for LIHEAP is provided in part or in whole by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. Per program rules, appointments may be scheduled up to 60 days in advance. If there are no appointments appearing on the scheduler (https://www.tazwoodcs.org/liheap) or when you contact the office, please check back the next business day. The scheduler automatically unlocks appointments as they become available. PLEASE NOTE: If a customer has a crisis situation, a shut off notice or are disconnected from services, they may be eligible to receive Reconnection Assistance (RA). First Hand Foundation is a public 501(c)(3) organization that provides funding for individual children—both domestically and globally—who need assistance with clinical necessities (such as surgery, medication and therapy), medical equipment and travel related to care. Expenses covered: *Treatment: Clinical procedures, medicine, dental care, therapy, prosthesis, service dogs, etc. *Equipment: Wheelchairs, movable ramps & stair lifts, assistive technology equipment, care devices, hearing aids, feeding equipment, etc. *Medical-related travel and lodging costs *Vehicle modifications: Lifts, ramps and transfer boards --------------------------------------------------------------- Expenses not covered: *Medical bills, reimbursements, emotional support animals, alternative/experimental treatments, or education-related therapies/expenses. *Permanent housing modifications

Callers receive personalized information about multiple sclerosis and connections to local and national resources related to MS. Service coordinators and peer counselors can talk through needs, answer questions, and help find the right support. Through the helpline, people with MS can also learn about and apply for a variety of support programs (eligibility usually requires an MS diagnosis), such as *Emergency Assistance Grant -- financial help for urgent needs like rent or utility bills (documentation required) *Healthcare Assistance Grant -- helps uninsured individuals pay for neurologist or dental visits *Homecare Assistance Grant – short-term homecare, caregiver respite, therapy services *Transportation Assistance Grant – funding for paratransit or rides to medical appointments (Lyft/Uber) and minor car repairs *Assistive Technology Program – info and partial funding for devices that aid daily living (e.g., canes, adaptive tech) *Computer Program – provides computers to help people with MS stay connected. *Cooling Program – cooling vests and accessories for heat sensitivity. The Share Closet also collects medical supplies, bedding, kitchen, and baby supplies to give to those in need. The site operates as a thrift store but provides certificates for individuals who cannot afford needed items.

The Center for Sight & Hearing's Morton Office is dedicated to vision rehabilitation. Services include Orientation & Mobility training, Braille instruction, low vision aids and devices, independent living skills, and support groups.

The Health & Wellness Connection of Fulton County (HWCFC) is a care management facility that works closely with Graham Health System to provide qualified individuals with low or no cost health services. Individuals who need assistance with things like medications, diabetic & other medical supplies, vision and dental care, and transportation for medical care may qualify for financial assistance. Individuals who do not qualify may seek assistance for referrals to other appropriate organizations.

The Central Illinois Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired, formerly known as the Peoria Area Blind People's Center until October 2013, was founded on May 9, 1955, by the members of the Illinois Social Club of the Blind and the Peoria District Association of the Blind. The Center was developed in order to provide vital services and support to individuals facing the uncertainties and challenges related to uncorrectable vision loss. The Center’s goal is to educate its members and provide them with independent living skills, helping to optimize individuals’ opportunities to lead an independent life.

Hooked on Fishing is a private, not-for-profit organization that provides fishing opportunities for the community, with a focus on children, senior citizens, and special needs groups. All fishing is “catch and release." Equipment and bait is provided. Instruction includes- -Safety -The basics of using a rod and reel -Fishing techniques -Baiting a hook -Landing the catch -Handling the fish -Removing hooks -Fish identification Beyond the basics, teaching can cover fish biology, knot tying, fishing ethics, fishing techniques and good fishing sportsmanship. Hooked on Fishing is happy to work with teachers, scout masters, and group leaders to custom design instructional programs that meet their specific educational objectives. Because of the importance of artesian wells in supplying water to to Hooked on Fishing's ponds, instruction can also be provided on aquifers, artesian wells, and water quality issues. Enthusiastic volunteers are able to provide much one-on-one help, guidance, and instruction to novice anglers.

The MSAA Equipment Distribution Program offers clients products designed to improve safety, dignity, mobility, and independence. MSAA provides these products at no charge and ships directly to the client. Items distributed through the program include home safety products such as shower chairs and grab bars, as well as mobility devices including canes, walkers, and wheelchairs.

Illinois Telecommunication Access Corporation (ITAC) administers a program to ensure equal access to communication for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community. Through the use of a voucher program, anyone who is Deaf or Hard of Hearing can obtain a free TTY, CapTel or amplified phone. Advocates for Access serves as a selection site for these phones.

The EBeauty "Pay It Forward" program provides free wigs to women facing hair loss from cancer or other medical conditions.

Wigs for Kids provides free hair replacement systems to children experiencing significant hair loss due to a medical condition like cancer, alopecia, or trichotillomania.

The Peoria Township Relief Office offers various forms of assistance to Peoria Township residents.
