2026 Warming & Cooling Center Information:
Open as a warming or cooling center during extreme temperatures. The Salvation Army's building is at 243 Derby St. in Pekin, and The Pekin Outreach Initiative is housed on the East Side of this building. The Pekin Outreach Initiative portion is open from 11am-4pm, Monday through Sunday, for people to drop in and warm up/cool off. The Salvation Army shelter in the gym at the same location is open overnight 5pm-10:30am, Monday through Sunday, for warming or cooling. Usually limited to 10-15 people at most for this purpose.

The Fulton County Health Department administers the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) for the county. LIHEAP provides energy assistance for eligible low income families in which a benefit is paid directly to the utility companies on behalf of eligible households, or directly to renters if the utility costs are included in their rent. The benefit amount will be credited to the households primary winter heating source (gas vs. electric).
The program can also occasionally assist with emergency furnace repair/replacement.

Almost Home Kids at OSF HealthCare Children's Hospital of Illinois provides care to children from newborn to age 22 who are most often dependent on medical technology, such as ventilators, feeding tubes, or central lines. Respite care offers families a period of rest from one to 14 days. In addition, transitional care is offered for children with medical complexities who are medically stable and ready to leave the hospital, but whose families need some extra time to make preparations for their child's return home.
