The purpose of the Miller Center is to serve the needs and interests of older adults (age 50+) in Pekin. The Miller Center offers transportation, activities, and serves as a central information and referral center. Contact for information or assistance concerning education, nutrition, health issues, legal aid, employment, transportation, recreation, social counseling, and cultural topics for mature adults.

Those in need may receive free smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors from the fire department. The fire stations also serve as cooling centers during extreme heat and warming centers during extreme cold spells. Cooling and Warming Center Details: All Peoria Fire Department Fire Stations are open to the public every day of the week as cooling/warming centers from 7:00 a.m. until 10:00 pm, but persons seeking help can go to any Fire Station at any time. HealthWell assists uninsured patients who need help paying for their insurance premiums. If you are eligible for an insurance plan that would pay for your treatments, but are having trouble affording the premium, HealthWell may be able to help. HealthWell cannot assist uninsured patients who need help paying the full cost of their treatment. However, HealthWell can refer you to other resources that may be helpful, such as drug manufacturers’ patient assistance programs.

Peoria Jobs Partnership is a Christian mentoring program for people who might be experiencing problems getting gainful employment. For the general public, there is the Community Program. The curriculum includes 12 classes, taught by different community professionals over a 12-week period. Students are required to complete homework for each class, and are awarded a certificate of completion at the end of the program. The Community Program allows students access to great instructor/ practitioners, and allows them contacts with community leaders that can act as advocates for them when they seek employment. Additional programs, such as Solar Training and the Fresh Start Workshop, are offered for individuals with a felony in their background and those re-entering society from incarceration.
