As of fall 2025, Tazwood Community Services, Inc. administers the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) for Peoria County. ======================================================== 2025-26 LIHEAP Energy Assistance Program Tazwood Community Services continues to set appointments, as they become available, for 2025-26 LIHEAP Energy Assistance, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-Noon & 1-4 p.m. Online scheduling is available at www.tazwoodcs.org/appointments If there are no appointments available when visiting the scheduling system, that means they are filled up for the full 60 days ahead at that time. IF IN A CRISIS SITUATION, SUCH AS PENDING DISCONNECTION OR ALREADY BEING DISCONNECTED , IT IS RECOMMENDED TO STILL CALL ANYWAY, EVEN IF NO APPOINTMENTS ARE LISTED ONLINE. PLEASE NOTE THAT FURNACE ASSISTANCE IS A SEPARATE PROGRAM, SO YOU SHOULD GO AHEAD AND CHECK WITH TAZWOOD, REGARDLESS OF WHAT IS LISTED ONLINE. In addition, customers can either call or go to their local office, but this is ONLY to schedule an appointment. When calling into the office, you might get a recorded message stating that the phones are disconnected, the number cannot be completed as dialed, all circuits are busy, etc. The type of message you receive varies based on your phone carrier. Unless Tazwood makes a post on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100064748766860) the phones ARE working. There can be thousands of customers calling on a given day, and Tazwood has around 20 staff answering the phones and scheduling appointments. It is important to remember that LIHEAP runs from October 1, 2025 - August 15, 2026, or until funding is exhausted. Customers can opt to wait and come in during the winter months if they would like to avoid the rush that that beginning of the program year brings. ================================================= ADDITIONAL LOCATION DETAILS: This office is in the University Professional Center Building. When you enter the parking lot follow it to the BACK of the building. Tazwood LIHEAP is located on the 2nd floor. You will enter through the back entrance where there are stairs and an elevator. Please be advised that the elevator is a little narrow in width. Customers with issues getting into the building or to the 2nd floor, please call (309-690-6500) and a staff member will come down to the lobby to assist you. Hooked on Fishing is a private, not-for-profit organization that provides fishing opportunities for the community, with a focus on children, senior citizens, and special needs groups. All fishing is “catch and release." Equipment and bait is provided. Instruction includes- -Safety -The basics of using a rod and reel -Fishing techniques -Baiting a hook -Landing the catch -Handling the fish -Removing hooks -Fish identification Beyond the basics, teaching can cover fish biology, knot tying, fishing ethics, fishing techniques and good fishing sportsmanship. Hooked on Fishing is happy to work with teachers, scout masters, and group leaders to custom design instructional programs that meet their specific educational objectives. Because of the importance of artesian wells in supplying water to to Hooked on Fishing's ponds, instruction can also be provided on aquifers, artesian wells, and water quality issues. Enthusiastic volunteers are able to provide much one-on-one help, guidance, and instruction to novice anglers.

The Canton Township Office offers emergency assistance for eligible residents. Emergency Assistance consists of a one-time payment for eviction notices and power/water shut offs. The maximum grant for this program is up to $500. The person/household will have to apply for township general assistance first; and if they do not qualify, they will then be screened for emergency assistance. The household's monthly income must be BELOW $700.

The Fulton County Health Department offers a variety of public health services. Also, there is a Free Overdose Prevention Vending Machine located just inside the front doors, available during normal business hours (Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.)

Women's Care Center is faith-based organization that offers free, confidential counseling, support, and education to women facing unplanned pregnancies. Services include confirmation of pregnancy and ultrasounds, but the center does not provide ongoing prenatal care or abortions. In addition to the listed services, the Women's Care Center offers the following program: Crib Club/BABE The Crib Club/BABE program provides cribs, diapers, clothing and other baby items under an incentive system that rewards participation in parenting classes, prenatal care and other programs. Coupons are provided which can be redeemed at the Crib Club stores.

Central Illinois FRIENDS supports members of the LGBTQI+ Community, people living with HIV, and the general public through compassionate and personalized care. North Central Behavioral Health Systems, Inc. is a non-profit behavioral health care organization serving La Salle, Bureau, Marshall, Putnam, Fulton, McDonough, and Grundy counties.

ADA Total Access is a family-owned business offering equipment and services to individuals with physical disabilities.

Mobile Crisis Response (MCR) is a 24/7 community-based program that provides an emergency assessment to children experiencing a psychiatric crisis. Youth who have no insurance coverage or who have Medicaid are assessed during a crisis to determine if community services can be utilized to avoid hospitalization. Children’s Home provides this life-saving service to Peoria, Tazewell and Woodford counties. If psychiatric hospitalization is deemed necessary, MCR facilitates a connection to the appropriate in-patient unit. All children screened and served in the program are referred through the CARES line at 1-800-345-9049 and routed to a 24-hour on-call system.

The Center for Prevention of Abuse is the only agency in the State of Illinois to provide combined services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault/abuse, and elder/disabled adult abuse. The Center also reaches students age pre-K through college with violence prevention education, as well as abusers with an abuser re-education program.

The purpose of the Miller Center is to serve the needs and interests of older adults (age 50+) in Pekin. The Miller Center offers transportation, activities, and serves as a central information and referral center. Contact for information or assistance concerning education, nutrition, health issues, legal aid, employment, transportation, recreation, social counseling, and cultural topics for mature adults.

The Veterans Assistance Commission (VAC) of Fulton County is available to assist veterans with their VA administrative needs, like filing claims; re-certifying paperwork with the VA; obtaining military and civilian medical documents, etc. for help with Veterans Administration claims; registering for VA Health Care; and acquiring legal copies of military records to include copies of Certificate of Discharge and Release from Active Duty (DD-214). The VAC has an accredited veteran service officer available to file claims. The office also offers Emergency Financial Assistance to Honorably Discharged Fulton County Veterans who qualify under the Federal Poverty Guidelines. In addition, the Veterans Assistance Commission provides free transportation to and from VA Health Care Facility appointments in Illinois and Iowa. These rides are on a first come first serve basis. Veterans should call in to reserve their ride immediately upon notification of their next appointment.

Heartland Health Services has been in operation since February 1, 2004, as a federally designated community health center. Its targeted population is low-income adults and children. Among its many programs, it provides health insurance, Medicaid, and Medicare navigation; as well as help in completing Social Security benefits applications, SNAP/Link applications, and applications for various assistance programs (utilities, etc.).

The purpose of the Emergency Management Agency is to mitigate potential hazards, plan for, coordinate, respond to, and aid in recovery from all disaster situations whether natural or man-made.

The Living Room Program at Trillium Place Crisis Center, an affiliate of Carle Health, provides 24/7 walk in mental health services for individuals experiencing a mental health or substance use disorder crisis. Services offered include support by certified recovery specialists, assistance with problem solving and goal settings, crisis intervention and safety planning, linkage to referrals, such as food, housing and healthcare services, and healthy refreshments. Proudly affiliated with Carle Health, Trillium Place is a not-for-profit organization originally formed in April 2019 by joining UnityPoint Health Behavioral Health Services, the Human Service Center, and Tazwood Center for Wellness. With locations in Peoria, East Peoria, Pekin, Lincoln, and Eureka, Trillium Place provides a comprehensive range of mental health and substance use disorder services.
