Advocates for Access is a center for independent living, empowering and providing services to people living with disabilities in Peoria, Tazewell, Woodford, and Fulton counties. ================================= Please note that for more complex durable medical equipment (DME) such as Hospital Beds, Lift Chairs etc., Advocates for Access connects customers who need them to those who have them to give and/or provides the guidance to get one from their provider. The same goes for blind mobility aids and related items.

The Veterans Assistance Commission (VAC) of Fulton County is available to assist veterans with their VA administrative needs, like filing claims; re-certifying paperwork with the VA; obtaining military and civilian medical documents, etc. for help with Veterans Administration claims; registering for VA Health Care; and acquiring legal copies of military records to include copies of Certificate of Discharge and Release from Active Duty (DD-214). The VAC has an accredited veteran service officer available to file claims. The office also offers Emergency Financial Assistance to Honorably Discharged Fulton County Veterans who qualify under the Federal Poverty Guidelines. In addition, the Veterans Assistance Commission provides free transportation to and from VA Health Care Facility appointments in Illinois and Iowa. These rides are on a first come first serve basis. Veterans should call in to reserve their ride immediately upon notification of their next appointment.

The Putnam County Sheriff's Office provides animal control services to Putnam County. Please note that the Sheriff's office does not deal with wild animals such as deer, skunk, bats, raccoon, etc. If you have questions/concerns in regards to this matter, please contact IL Department of Natural Resources (IL DNR). The Illinois Prairie District Public Library, established in 1950, has branches in Benson, Germantown Hills, Metamora, Roanoke, Spring Bay, and Washburn.

The Pearce Community Center offers before and after school programs.

Those in need may receive free smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors from the fire department. The fire stations also serve as cooling centers during extreme heat and warming centers during extreme cold spells. Cooling and Warming Center Details: All Peoria Fire Department Fire Stations are open to the public every day of the week as cooling/warming centers from 7:00 a.m. until 10:00 pm, but persons seeking help can go to any Fire Station at any time. It's important to note that if the crew is sent on a call, anyone using the station as a cooling or warming center will have to temporarily leave during that time. The East Village Growth Cell Tax Increment Financing District (TIF) Housing Program helps property owners in the East Bluff neighborhood to make improvements to the outside of their homes. Homeowners and landlords can apply. The EVGC TIF Housing Program is a 50/50 match grant program that gives between $1,000 to $15,000 of assistance to property owners of single-family homes. JOLT Harm Reduction provides a variety of free services, including -Naloxone/Narcan and Overdose Prevention Kits and Training -Drug Checking (analysis of drugs to verify composition for more informed consumption and to avoid highly dangerous substances/adulterants) -Peer Recovery Navigation (exploring recovery options and offering support through the process) -Sexual Health & Testing (free and confidential testing for HIV/AIDS, Hep. C, Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, and Syphillis. The Fulton County Health Department offers a variety of public health services. Also, there is a Free Overdose Prevention Vending Machine located just inside the front doors, available during normal business hours (Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.)

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) provides support, advocacy, and resources for victims of drunk and drug-impaired driving, as well as prevention and education services aimed at ending impaired driving. The organization's 24/7 Victim Helpline is a confidential, toll-free line that provides emotional support, information, and referrals for individuals and families impacted by drunk or drug-impaired driving crashes. Assistance can include help navigating the criminal justice system, victims’ rights, compensation options, and community-based victim services. In addition, MADD can assist in locating Victim Impact Panels, which are educational programs where victims or survivors share personal stories about the consequences of impaired driving. These are typically court-ordered for individuals convicted of DUI/DWI offenses, but may also be attended voluntarily. They are offered in many communities and sometimes available online, depending on location.

The Putnam Fire Department can be used as a warming or cooling center during extreme weather, but please call ahead to make sure someone is there.

The mission of ABC Counseling & Family Services is to provide specialized evaluation and treatment to youth that are either the victims of sexual abuse or have sexual behavior problems and to help their families heal from the trauma of sexual abuse. ABC Counseling & Family Services provides adoption services for adoptive parents and counseling for women experiencing an unplanned pregnancy.

OSF Saint Francis - Behavioral & Mental Health offers comprehensive outpatient and more limited inpatient behavioral & psychiatric services for adults. For comprehensive behavioral health service linkage (including outside of the OSF network), please also check with OSF Behavioral Health Navigators (309-308-8150). The service is free.

Women's Care Center is faith-based organization that offers free, confidential counseling, support, and education to women facing unplanned pregnancies. Services include confirmation of pregnancy and ultrasounds, but the center does not provide ongoing prenatal care or abortions. In addition to the listed services, the Women's Care Center offers the following program: Crib Club/BABE The Crib Club/BABE program provides cribs, diapers, clothing and other baby items under an incentive system that rewards participation in parenting classes, prenatal care and other programs. Coupons are provided which can be redeemed at the Crib Club stores.
