With food allergies on the rise, and a lack of support across the country, food allergy families Kevin/Lindsey Spangler and Chris/Megan Horan of Peoria, IL came together to start Allergy Awareness for Children Everywhere (AACE Peoria), a FARE-recognized food allergy support group. Their group's mission of providing lifesaving food allergy support, education, advocacy, and research to the community has led them to collaborate with Red Sneakers for Oakley (RSFO). RSFO's focus is saving lives through educating and advocating for individuals with food allergies. The similar missions and the desire to organize other fragmented groups across the country sparked the collaboration. The group centered in Peoria Heights, IL is the first Red Sneakers for Oakley Chapter in the country. ===================================== Current Efforts: *Food allergy awareness education and training: Food allergy training certified by FARECheck, ServSafe. The Community Employment Team is made up of Employment Specialists and Job Coaches who use a coordinated team approach to support the consumer to be successful in the world of work. This total team approach is centered around the consumer and his/her support system: the Employment Specialist, family, the interdisciplinary team, the DRS counselor, the doctor, etc. This model really works and each year Bridgeway is successful in placing scores of people with disabilities into competitive jobs and supporting them to achieve a more fulfilling life by realizing their dream of having a job in their community. Bridgeway provides a variety of vocational training experiences for individuals with disabilities to learn work skills and habits as well as provide a regular paycheck based on the productivity of the individual. Paid opportunities to build work skills include some of these skill areas: -following a schedule -learning a task from beginning to end -keeping track of your time/production -dealing with production speed-up/slow-downs -operating within the safety parameters set by a supervisor -getting to work on time -complying with work rules -learning how to work with others Even people with serious limitations can learn a job and find satisfaction and increased feelings of self worth by having employment. Maitri Path to Wellness provides mental health and addictions counseling to individuals, couples, families, and groups. Services offered include- Individual Counseling One-on-one confidential therapy for mental health and/or substance use disorder concerns. Helping to develop and improve coping skills for everyday challenges, life stressors, and personal growth using evidence-based tools and individualized treatment planning. Substance Use Disorder Treatment Groups Level 1 Outpatient and Level 2 Intensive Outpatient treatment groups are designed to help patients achieve changes in alcohol and/or drug use and addictive behaviors.
