Since 1983, Freedom House has provided a safe and free haven for victims of domestic and sexual violence and their children. It serves the residents of Bureau, Henry, Marshall, Putnam, and Stark Counties in Illinois and is supported by public, corporate, and private funds. In addition to shelter services, Freedom House provides domestic and sexual violence prevention programs, prevention programs for grade school and high school students, medical and legal advocacy, and volunteer support.

Our shelter was made possible by a grant from Dara’s Canine Foundation and the generosity of many individual contributors. Because of their support, the lives of many senior citizens will be enriched and the lives of many wonderful older cats and dogs will be saved. After the initial isolation period, cats are allowed to run loose in the building. Dogs are walked 2-3 times a day. “Kizzie’s Garden” is a fenced area for one on one time with the dogs. Safe2HelpIL offers students a safe, confidential way in which to share information that might help prevent suicides, bullying, school violence or other threats to school safety. This program is not intended to suspend, expel, or punish students. Rather, the goal is to encourage students to "Seek Help Before Harm." Safe2HelpIL is a 24/7 program where students can use a free app, text/phone, and website (Safe2HelpIL.com) to share information on school safety issues in a confidential environment. Once vetted, the information provided will be shared with local district and school officials and/or local PSAP/9-1-1 call center, depending on the nature of the information shared. The Safe2Help program is a confidential help line. Reporters will be encouraged to provide their name and contact information, but it is not a requirement. Information received by Safe2Help is exempt from the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) reporting rules and can only be accessed under limited conditions by a court order.

The Veterans Assistance program is an emergency and interim financial assistance program and should not be considered to be an ongoing financial supportive program. All assistance provided by the VACPC is predicated on an established standard of need as set forth by IDHS. It is not the intent of either the Commission or the County to provide assistance either less than or in excess of the levels of assistance adopted by IDHS. The following assistance is given upon qualification: *Food Orders and Personal Items: Depending on size of family. *Utilities and Fuel: Utility payments will be made, providing the applicant qualifies in other respects. No deposits or past due bills will be paid to the utility company. *Rent Payments: This Veterans Assistance office does not pay security deposits, back rents, or home finding fees. Rents shall not be paid to relatives unless it is a separate rental dwelling. *Transportation: The VA will provide Transportation for the veteran to the local Veterans Medical Center by the least expensive means when necessary.

ACM Care is a non-profit organization that serves as a Case Coordination Unit for the Community Care Program, contracted by the Illinois Department on Aging, for the City of Peoria, Tazewell County, Woodford County, Marshall County, and Stark County. ACM will initially provide a care coordinator to visit the home and conduct a comprehensive assessment to determine the needs of the person. The coordinator will then work with the person and family members to the link the person with needed services and resources. These can include in-home services, adult day care, home delivered or congregate meals, transportation options, assistive devices, and more.

Trillium Place Access Center, an affiliate of Carle Health, provides information and linkage to Trillium Place mental health and substance use programs and services located in Central Illinois. Trillium Place provides comprehensive mental health and substance use disorder services. Mental health outpatient services include counseling, community-based services, and psychiatry. Substance use disorder programs include inpatient, outpatient, medication assisted treatment, and detoxification services.
